Taiwan Vows to Defend Sovereignty Amid Tensions

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te has said that the island is determined to protect its sovereignty and strengthen its defence as China increases its military pressure. His remarks came after China fired rockets toward Taiwan during military drills.

The President said the world is watching to see whether the people of Taiwan have the determination to defend themselves. He said that as President, his position is very clear — Taiwan will firmly defend its national sovereignty and improve its defence capabilities.

He added that the year 2026 will be very important for Taiwan. He said the country must prepare for the worst possible situation while still hoping for the best.
