Takaichi Reappointed as Japan PM for Second Term

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi was reappointed by Parliament to form her second Cabinet after her party’s strong victory in last week’s general election. The reappointment confirms her leadership and gives her another term to carry forward her policies. She is expected to retain all the ministers from her previous Cabinet, showing continuity in her government’s approach.

Her party, the Liberal Democratic Party, now holds a two-thirds majority in the 465-member lower house of Parliament. This large majority gives the government strong control and makes it easier to pass key bills and even propose constitutional changes if needed. Political observers say this puts Takaichi in a powerful position to implement her agenda without major opposition hurdles.

On national security, Takaichi has announced plans to strengthen Japan’s military capabilities. She wants to increase defence spending and review the country’s security policies by December. She has also shown support for boosting Japan’s arms exports and tightening immigration rules, saying these steps are necessary to protect national interests and ensure stability.

Economically, her main challenge will be handling rising prices and slow wage growth. Many households in Japan are feeling pressure from inflation, while salaries have not increased at the same pace. Takaichi has promised measures to support families, improve income levels, and strengthen economic growth.

With a strong mandate and stable leadership, her second term is expected to focus on defence reforms, economic recovery, and policy stability, shaping Japan’s direction in the coming years.
