Tamil Nadu Introduces Single-Window PhD Admissions

The Tamil Nadu government will soon introduce a single-window counselling system for PhD admissions in all state-run universities under the higher education department.

State Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhiaan announced this in the Assembly on Thursday.

Under the new system, all universities will publish detailed information about their PhD programs. This will include subject-wise details of departments, names of research supervisors, and the number of PhD seats available.

Students applying for PhD courses will be able to clearly see their options and choose their preferred research subject, university, and guide through a coordinated process.

The government said this step aims to make the admission process more transparent, organised, and student-friendly. It is also expected to reduce confusion and ensure fair access to PhD opportunities across state universities.
