Telangana Cabinet to Decide on Key Poll Roadmap

As the Telangana government completes two busy years, and the Congress
celebrates its big win in the Jubilee Hills by-election, the state Cabinet is
preparing for an important meeting on Monday, 17 November, at the Telangana
Secretariat.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will lead the meeting, and the agenda is full
of major issues. The Cabinet will discuss the long-delayed plan for local body
elections, which has been stuck because of legal issues related to Backward
Classes (BC) reservations.

The meeting will also look at a sensitive proposal for giving reservations
based on political parties, review plans for the upcoming Telangana Rising
Global Summit 2025, and approve the state’s new Gig and Platform Workers
(Registration, Social Security & Welfare) Bill, 2025.

The most closely watched topic is the local body elections. On 14 November,
the Chief Minister had already said that the Cabinet would decide on the
“roadmap” for these long-pending polls. The ministers are expected to discuss
how to work through the legal challenges while staying committed to the
government’s promise of social justice.
