Temple Chariot Topples in Vellore, Seven Injured

A joyful celebration turned into chaos when a 60-foot-tall temple chariot toppled during a religious procession in Vellore district, Tamil Nadu. Seven people were injured in the accident, causing panic among devotees who had gathered for the festival.

The incident took place during the Mayana Kollai festival, a well-known local religious event. As part of the tradition, devotees pull a tall and beautifully decorated chariot carrying a deity through the streets toward the Palar River. Large crowds usually take part in the procession with prayers and devotion.

According to reports, the chariot suddenly lost balance while being pulled and fell to one side. The unexpected collapse created fear and confusion, with people running for safety. Some devotees who were close to the chariot were injured when it fell.

Local residents and volunteers quickly rushed to help the injured before emergency services arrived at the scene. Ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials said that all the injured are receiving medical care.

Authorities have started an investigation to find out what caused the chariot to topple. They are also reviewing safety arrangements to ensure that such accidents do not happen again during future festivals.
