Thennarasu Presents Interim Budget Ahead of Polls
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu on Tuesday began presenting the Interim Budget for 2026–27 in the State Legislative Assembly. The budget was introduced ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
An interim budget is usually presented in an election year. It allows the government to get approval for essential spending until a new government is formed and presents a full budget.
The interim budget mainly focuses on routine expenses and important allocations needed to continue government programmes and services. It ensures that salaries, welfare schemes, development projects, and other regular activities continue without interruption.
Since elections are approaching, the current government has presented this interim budget to manage finances for the next few months. After the elections, the new government will present a detailed full-year budget with fresh policy announcements and major proposals.
The presentation of the interim budget is an important financial exercise, as it keeps the administration running smoothly during the transition period.
