The fire at an ONGC gas well in Andhra Pradesh’s Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district continued to burn on Tuesday, though officials said the intensity of the blaze was lower than on the previous day. Expert teams from Mumbai and Delhi have been sent to the spot to help control the situation.
The major fire started around 12.40 pm on January 5 after a gas leak at the Mori-5 oil well, located near the villages of Mori and Irusumanda. The leak caused a powerful jet fire, which could be seen from a long distance.
Although the oil well belongs to the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), the operations at the site are handled by its Production Enhancement Contractor, Deep Industries Ltd. Officials said safety measures have been strengthened in nearby areas, and efforts are ongoing to bring the fire fully under control.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any further risk to people living in nearby villages.
