Traffic Check Leads to Chain Snatcher Arrest

A routine traffic check in Kilpauk on Tuesday night turned into a dramatic chase when police caught a chain snatcher trying to escape.

Head constable Riyaz and constables Madhavan and Balamurugan had set up barricades on Gangadeeswarar Koil Street to slow down speeding vehicles and check traffic violations. During the check, they noticed a motorcyclist riding on the wrong side of the road in a suspicious manner.

When the police signalled him to stop, the rider ignored them and tried to speed away. Suspecting something was wrong, the officers immediately chased him. After a short pursuit through the nearby streets, they managed to stop and catch the man.

During questioning and checking, the police found that he was carrying a gold chain believed to have been stolen. Further investigation revealed that he was involved in chain-snatching incidents in the area. The police seized the stolen chain and took the suspect into custody.

Officials said the arrest was possible because of the alertness and quick action of the traffic police. They added that regular vehicle checks and patrols help prevent crimes and ensure public safety.

The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway to find out if he was involved in other theft cases.
