Traffic Diversions Announced Ahead of Pongal Holidays
Ahead of the Pongal holidays, the Tambaram police have announced special traffic regulations and route diversions to reduce congestion in and around the city. These measures are mainly aimed at managing traffic on roads leading to the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) at Kilambakkam, where heavy passenger movement is expected.
According to a police press release, the traffic arrangements will be in force on January 12 to 14 and again on January 18 and 19. The restrictions will apply between 2 pm and 2 am on these days.
During these hours, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to use the Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road, Pammal–Kundrathur Road, Thiruneermalai Road, and other major connecting routes. This step has been taken to ensure smoother movement of buses, cars, and two-wheelers, and to prevent traffic jams near the bus terminus.
The police have advised drivers of heavy vehicles to use alternative routes during the restriction hours. Commuters travelling to and from the bus terminus have been asked to plan their journeys in advance and follow traffic signs and police instructions.
Tambaram police said the temporary measures are necessary to ensure safe and hassle-free travel for the public during the festive rush and have requested the cooperation of motorists.
