Trump Considers Talks and Action Amid Iran Unrest
U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the United States may hold talks with Iranian officials and is also in touch with Iran’s opposition groups as protests continue to spread across the country. These protests are seen as one of the biggest challenges to Iran’s leadership since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Mr Trump said the U.S. is looking at several strong options, including military action, if the situation worsens.
Mr Trump also said that Iran has contacted the U.S. to discuss its nuclear programme. This comes after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities during a 12-day conflict in June. He warned Iran’s leaders that the United States would take strong action if security forces use violence against protesters.
Officials said Mr Trump is expected to meet senior advisers on Tuesday, January 13, to decide the next steps on Iran. The meeting will cover diplomatic, economic, and military choices as the unrest in Iran continues.
