Trump Renews Iran Emergency, Imposes New Tariffs

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order renewing the national emergency against Iran and introducing a new tariff system targeting countries that do business with Tehran.

According to the White House, the order is meant to protect America’s national security, foreign policy, and economy.

Under the new rules, the United States can impose extra tariffs on imports from any country that directly or indirectly buys goods or services from Iran. This means countries trading with Iran could face higher taxes when exporting products to the US.

The executive order came into effect early today.

The White House said the move is part of a larger plan to pressure Iran over its actions abroad. Officials pointed to Iran’s alleged nuclear ambitions, ballistic missile programme, support for terrorist groups, and activities that create instability in the Middle East.

By increasing economic pressure, the US government hopes to limit Iran’s influence and push it to change its behaviour.
