Two Maoists Shot Dead in Chhattisgarh Encounter

At least two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, January 29, 2026, a police official said.

The gunfight started around 7 a.m. in a forest area in the southern part of the district. A team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was carrying out an anti-Naxalite operation at the time.

According to police, the security personnel were patrolling the forest after receiving information about the presence of Naxalites in the area. During the search, the Naxalites reportedly opened fire on the team. The security forces returned fire, leading to an exchange of gunshots.

After the encounter ended, two Naxalites were found dead at the spot. Security forces also recovered weapons and other materials from the area.

Officials said the search operation is still going on to check if more Naxalites are hiding nearby. Extra security personnel have been deployed in the region to ensure safety.

Bijapur district is known to be affected by Naxalite activities, and security forces often conduct operations to control violence and maintain peace.
