US, Bolivia to Restore Ambassadors After Two Decades
The United States and Bolivia are working together to restore full diplomatic ties by sending Ambassadors to each other’s countries again. Bolivia’s Foreign Minister, Fernando Aramayo, said both sides are coordinating to reinstate their Ambassadors as soon as possible.
The two countries have not had top diplomatic representatives for almost 20 years. Since 2008, neither the U.S. nor Bolivia has hosted an Ambassador.
This situation began when former Bolivian President Evo Morales expelled the U.S. Ambassador. He accused the diplomat of interfering in Bolivia’s internal matters and trying to weaken his left-wing government. After that, relations between the two countries became tense.
Now, both nations are taking steps to improve their relationship. Officials said sending back Ambassadors will help strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and promote cooperation in areas such as trade, development, and regional stability.
The move is seen as an important step toward normalising ties after years of strained relations.
