Varun Chakravarthy’s 2026 Performance
Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy has had a mixed year in 2026, playing in various tournaments and formats. While he showed promise at the T20 World Cup, he struggled later in the season. He is currently part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2026.
Varun started his 2026 with a strong performance for Tamil Nadu in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He took six wickets in two matches, including four against Rajasthan. His economy rate was under three runs per over, showing his effectiveness early in the year.
He then played in India’s T20I series against New Zealand and finished as the third highest wicket-taker with four wickets. His best figures were 2/37, which helped him build momentum ahead of the World Cup.
At the T20 World Cup, Varun was initially dominant, taking nine wickets in the first four matches, including three against Namibia and the Netherlands. However, his performance dropped in the Super 8 stage, where he struggled to take wickets and conceded runs. In the semi-final against England, he gave away 64 runs while taking only one wicket. Despite this, he ended as the joint highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets but had a high economy rate of 9.25.
In IPL 2026, Varun’s first game for KKR was against Mumbai Indians. He struggled, giving away 48 runs in four overs and losing his mystery spin.
Varun hopes to bounce back in the remaining IPL matches and regain his best form.
