Vijay Alleges Police Blocked Perambur Campaign

Vijay, president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has accused the Greater Chennai Police and some officials of blocking his election campaign in Perambur.

In a statement released on Friday (March 27, 2026), Vijay said that his party had planned to hold a campaign meeting on Saturday (March 28) at Mullai Nagar junction in the Perambur Assembly constituency. He said that permission for the event had been requested two days earlier.

However, according to him, a day before the event, the Greater Chennai Corporation dug pits at the planned location and placed barricades. He questioned how these sudden changes happened just before the scheduled meeting.

Vijay strongly criticized the situation and called it an attack on democracy. He said such actions prevent political parties from reaching out to people and conducting campaigns freely.

The issue has raised concerns about fairness during election campaigning in the city. Supporters of the party have expressed disappointment, while officials are yet to give a detailed explanation.

The development has added tension to the political atmosphere in Chennai as parties prepare for upcoming elections.
