Work Accelerates on Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Corridor

Work is moving quickly on the construction of the two-tier Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated corridor. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is carrying out the project at a 64-acre casting yard near Chembarambakkam, where they are pre-casting single-cell box girders. These are important parts of the elevated road, and completing them on time is crucial for the project.

According to Virender Sambyal, Regional Officer of NHAI-Chennai, the construction is expected to be finished by November 2027. He said, “The State government is cooperating with us and has promised to help us increase our working hours from 11 to 16 hours a day. This will allow us to complete the work according to the schedule.”

The two-tier corridor will help reduce traffic congestion in Chennai by providing a faster connection between the port area and Maduravoyal. The elevated design means vehicles can move smoothly above the existing roads, avoiding traffic jams on the streets below.

NHAI officials said that the project is progressing well and that increasing the daily working hours will further speed up construction. Once completed, the corridor is expected to improve transport efficiency for goods and commuters, boosting trade and daily travel in the city.
