World Condemns Iran’s Crackdown on Protests
World leaders have strongly criticised Iran for its harsh actions against protesters as demonstrations continue to spread across the country. Several countries say the Iranian authorities are using excessive force to stop people from protesting.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Australia, Canada, and the European Union praised the courage of Iranian citizens who are taking to the streets. They called on the Iranian government to stop using deadly force against protesters and to respect people’s right to protest peacefully.
Protests have been reported in many parts of Iran, leading the government to deploy large numbers of police and security forces. In many areas, clashes have taken place between protesters and security personnel.
The Iranian government has also imposed a nationwide internet shutdown to limit communication and prevent people from organizing protests. Reports say internet access has dropped to around one percent, making it very difficult for people to share information with the outside world.
The protests have now entered their thirteenth day. They first began due to public anger over rising prices and the high cost of living. Over time, the movement has grown bigger and stronger, with many protesters now demanding an end to the current ruling system. Iran has been under the same regime since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which removed the pro-Western Shah from power.
