Zverev Frustrated as Alcaraz Takes Medical Timeout
Third-seeded Alexander Zverev looked visibly upset when Carlos Alcaraz took a medical timeout (MTO) during their high-intensity Australian Open 2026 men’s singles semifinal at Rod Laver Arena on Friday. Zverev believed that Alcaraz was dealing with cramps rather than a serious injury.
The incident happened in the 10th game of the third set. Alcaraz had already won the first two sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). The score in the third set was tied at 4-4 when Alcaraz appeared to feel a problem in his quadriceps after missing a backhand shot.
Despite the discomfort, Alcaraz managed to hold his serve, making it 5-4, before taking a medical timeout to sit down and recover.
Zverev’s reaction showed his frustration, as the timeout came at a crucial stage of the match. The moment added drama to what has already been an intense and exciting semifinal.
