He said rapid technological developments have created new challenges for filmmakers, musicians, actors, and other creative professionals. One of the major concerns is film piracy. Illegal copies of movies can be shared through websites, social media platforms, and other digital channels without the permission of copyright owners. This can cause major financial losses for filmmakers and also affect the people who work in the industry. Satheesan also highlighted the growing threat from AI-based technologies, particularly deepfakes. These tools can create highly realistic videos, images, or audio recordings of people without their permission. Such content can be misused to copy, change, or falsely represent the work and identity of artists. He said existing laws need to keep pace with these technological changes. According to him, copyright rules should be regularly updated so that creators receive proper protection while legitimate use of creative content is still allowed. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of creating a legal framework that can respond to both current and future developments in digital media. Stronger rules could help creators protect their work, reduce unauthorized use, and ensure that artists receive fair recognition and benefits from their creations. As AI technology continues to develop, the entertainment industry is expected to face new legal and ethical challenges. Satheesan's call for updated copyright protections highlights the need for lawmakers, technology experts, and the creative industry to work together to address these issues. The goal, he said, should be to protect creativity and the rights of creators while ensuring that new technologies can continue to develop responsibly.
