In a moment of immense pride for India—Roohi Mohazzab, a six-year-old environmentalist and first-standard student of Common Ground International Academy, has achieved a historic global milestone. She was officially invited as a Keynote Speaker and SDG Impact Awardee at the Global Conference on Education for a Sustainable Future (GCE 2026), organized by the UNESCO Youth Education Research Center and held at the United Nations Asia-Pacific Headquarters.With this prestigious recognition, Roohi becomes India’s one of the youngest child environmental voices to be honoured at a UNESCO-led global forum—marking a landmark achievement in youth-led and child-driven climate action and sustainability advocacy. The international conference took place on 11–12 February 2026 at the United Nations Conference Centre, in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Council—an international organization holding Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).A Historic Launch at the United Nation In an extraordinary and symbolic moment, Roohi also officially launched her foundation, “The Children Movement for Climate Compassion,” at the prestigious United Nations platform in Bangkok.The launch marks the formal global beginning of a pioneering child-led movement dedicated to nurturing environmental responsibility, compassion for nature, and civic consciousness among children worldwide.By unveiling the foundation at an international forum, Roohi positioned children not as passive beneficiaries of climate policies—but as active stakeholders and changemakers in shaping a sustainable future. CounTree Project Launched on World Environment Day 2025, the CounTree Project aims to plant one crore (10 million) trees by establishing 10 lakh micro-nurseries in schools across India—empowering children to actively participate in ecological restoration. Tree Bank Nursery Project Formally launched by Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, this initiative targets 10,000 schools to promote environmental conservation and sustainable learning ecosystems. Recycled Paper Passports Campaign At just five years old, Roohi drew international attention by writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 195 world leaders, advocating for recycled paper passports to save millions of trees annually. From leading tree-planting drives in landslide-prone regions like Wayanad to donating saplings to schools and public institutions, Roohi translates advocacy into measurable environmental action.
