India Allocates ₹13,416 Crore for Space Research
India’s research community has received a boost from the 2026-27 budget, especially those working in astronomy and space science. The government has allocated ₹13,416.20 crore to the Department of Space for the year.
A significant part of this funding will go towards deep-space exploration and astrophysics projects. This includes the construction of two major telescope facilities:
National Large Optical-Infrared Telescope (30-meter) – A powerful telescope to study distant stars and galaxies.
National Large Solar Telescope – Located near Pangong Lake in Ladakh, this telescope will help scientists study the Sun in detail.
These investments aim to strengthen India’s capabilities in space research and help scientists explore the universe with advanced tools. Experts believe the new telescopes will enhance India’s role in global astronomy research and support cutting-edge discoveries in both deep-space and solar studies.
