Mars South Pole Feature Likely Rock, Not Lake
NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) studied a feature under the ice at Mars’s
south pole, raising new questions about what it is made of. A recent study using advanced
radar suggests that this area, once thought to be a hidden lake, is probably made of rock
and dust. The 2018 discovery had excited scientists because it hinted at the possible
presence of water, which could relate to life in the solar system.
