Winter Forces Birds to Seek Warmer Regions
As winter arrives in the northern regions, birds face many challenges. Lakes and rivers can freeze, insects disappear, and plant-based food becomes hard to find. Nesting sites also become unsafe, making it difficult for birds to raise chicks or find enough food.
To survive the cold months, many bird species migrate to southern regions, where the climate is milder and food is more abundant. Migration allows them to escape harsh conditions and continue their life cycle safely.
In India, birds find a variety of habitats to spend the winter. Wetlands, coasts, and forests provide food, shelter, and protection. Rich ecosystems like the forests of the Himalayas or the Western Ghats support a wide range of species, offering them safety and a chance to thrive until the northern regions become habitable again.
These migrations are essential for survival, helping birds maintain their populations and keeping the ecosystem balanced.
