Amazon Layoffs Hit Engineering Teams the Hardest

Amazon’s latest restructuring has led to one of the biggest job cuts in the
company’s history, with engineering teams being hit the hardest, according to
state labour records.

In October 2025, the company announced over 14,000 layoffs across almost all
parts of its business, including cloud services, devices, retail, advertising,
and groceries.

State filings from New York, California, New Jersey, and Washington show how
severely engineering roles were affected.
Out of more than 4,700 recorded layoffs in these states, about 40% were
engineers, according to data shared through WARN (Worker Adjustment and
Retraining Notification) notices, CNBC reported.

However, the numbers only show part of the total cuts, because not all states
report layoffs in the same way.

These job cuts come as Amazon CEO Andy Jassy continues working to change and
improve the company’s internal culture.
