KCR Attacks Congress Govt Over Water Rights
BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) on Sunday criticised the Congress government
in Telangana, calling it a “useless government.” He said his party would launch
protests to protect the state’s water rights.
His comments came a few days after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said he was
ready to hold a special Assembly session to discuss the Krishna and Godavari river
water issues with KCR.
Speaking at a press conference, KCR accused the Congress government of failing to
put pressure on the Central government after it returned the detailed project report
(DPR) of the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project. He said the present
government did not continue the project started earlier.
KCR said any new government should carry forward ongoing projects, but claimed the
Congress government failed to do so. He also said the state government did not
respond properly after the DPR was sent back and should have taken an all-party
delegation to the Centre to press for approval.
He further alleged that the Central government, which depends on the support of the
Telugu Desam Party (TDP), was protecting its ally. He suggested that the DPR was
returned because of pressure from the TDP.
KCR said he had stayed silent on the issue until now, but would fight against both
the Central and state governments from now on.
