Trump Consults Security Team on Iran Unrest
Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump is holding discussions with his national security team to decide the next steps on Iran, as unrest continues across the country. The talks are focused on understanding the number of people killed and arrested during more than two weeks of protests in Iran.
President Trump said he believes the level of killing is “significant” and added that his administration would “act accordingly” based on the situation.
According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRAI), since protests began on December 28, about 16,700 people have been arrested, and more than 2,000 people have been killed. The group said that most of those killed were protesters.
HRAI said it collects information through a network of activists inside Iran, who help confirm reports of deaths and arrests.
The unrest has drawn international attention, with governments and human rights groups closely watching how the situation develops and how Iran’s authorities respond.
