Manenti Seeks More Matches for Italy
Stand-in captain Harry Manenti shared his mixed feelings after Italy’s impressive run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. While he was proud of the team’s performance, he also expressed concern about the lack of regular high-level matches for Italy.
Italy’s dream debut at the T20 World Cup came to an end after their final Group C match against the West Indies cricket team on Thursday, February 19, 2026. West Indies secured a comfortable 42-run victory in that game. However, Italy had already made history by winning four matches in the group stage and qualifying for the Super Eights.
Manenti said Italy is on a strong upward “trajectory,” meaning the team is improving quickly and moving in the right direction. But he warned that this progress could slow down or even “drop off” if the team does not get enough opportunities to play against top international sides.
He explained that regular matches at a high level are important for the players to gain experience, improve skills, and stay competitive. Without consistent exposure to strong teams, it becomes difficult to maintain growth.
Italy’s performance in the tournament surprised many fans and experts. As a debutant team, they showed confidence, discipline, and strong teamwork. Their qualification for the Super Eights was a major achievement and a proud moment for Italian cricket.
Manenti praised his teammates for their hard work and commitment. He said the team has great potential and believes that with proper support and more international fixtures, Italy can continue to grow in world cricket.
The tournament may have ended for them with a loss, but Italy’s campaign has raised hopes for the future. The team will now look to build on this experience and push for more opportunities to compete on the global stage.
