DMK Forms 7-Member Committee for Alliance Seats
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has formed a seven-member committee to discuss seat sharing arrangements with its alliance partners ahead of the upcoming state and national elections. This is seen as a crucial step in the party’s election strategy, as alliance seat distribution often plays a major role in determining the outcome of elections.
The announcement was made by DMK general secretary Duraimurugan in an official release. According to the release, the committee will be headed by DMK treasurer T R Baalu and will include senior party leaders with significant experience in governance and party organization. The members are:
Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru
DMK MPs Trichy Siva and A Raja
DMK Organizational Secretary R S Bharathi
PWD Minister E V Velu
Agriculture Minister M R K Panneerselvam
The committee’s main responsibility will be to negotiate with alliance parties and finalise which party will contest in each constituency. Political analysts say this is one of the most important steps before elections, as a well-planned seat-sharing arrangement can maximize the alliance’s chances of winning.
DMK leaders stated that the committee will hold meetings with all alliance partners in the coming weeks. The discussions are expected to focus on fair allocation of seats, understanding regional strengths, and maintaining harmony within the alliance. Leaders also emphasized that the process will be transparent and collaborative to prevent conflicts that could weaken the alliance.
Political experts note that DMK’s careful planning reflects its intent to strengthen the alliance, consolidate voter support, and strategically position candidates in key constituencies. The move also shows the party’s awareness of the importance of maintaining internal cohesion while negotiating with allies, which could be a decisive factor in the elections.
With the formation of this committee, the DMK has signaled that alliance negotiations are now officially underway, and the coming weeks will be critical in finalizing seat-sharing agreements across the state.
