Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Stars with Two Wickets in Duleep Trophy Match

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a strong debut for East Zone by taking two wickets in just four balls during the Duleep Trophy 2026 quarterfinal against North East Zone in Bengaluru on Tuesday. This was his first match playing for East Zone, where he was named vice-captain under Ishan Kishan.

East Zone had scored 467 runs in their first innings, with Shahbaz Ahmed leading the team with 167 runs and Sudip Kumar Gharami contributing 146. North East Zone struggled to respond, being bowled out for just 111 runs in 42.5 overs. This gave East Zone a significant lead of 356 runs, forcing North East Zone to bat again.

Sooryavanshi entered the bowling attack during the second innings and quickly made an impact. He took his first wicket with the second ball of his over, dismissing Kishan Lyngdoh for 25 runs. Just three balls later, he claimed another wicket by getting Imliwati Lemtur out for four runs. This impressive performance earned him two wickets in just four deliveries.

With the bat, Sooryavanshi had a short time at the crease and scored eight runs, hitting two boundaries against Bishworjit Konthoujam before being dismissed.

Vaibhav gained attention during IPL 2025 with Rajasthan Royals and made his India debut in June against England. He also played in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, finishing as the top scorer with 151 runs. To date, he has played six T20Is for India, scoring 193 runs at a high strike rate of 189.22, including two half-centuries.
