Jammu and Kashmir Win Maiden Ranji Title

For many years, Jammu and Kashmir was not seen as a strong cricketing region in India. It was often considered a distant and less important part of the country’s cricket map.

However, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, history was created at the KSCA Rajnagar Stadium. Jammu and Kashmir won its first-ever Ranji Trophy title by defeating eight-time champion Karnataka cricket team in the final.

Although the final match ended in a draw, Jammu and Kashmir were declared champions because they had taken a huge 291-run lead in the first innings. In Ranji Trophy rules, the team with the first-innings lead in a drawn final is awarded the title.

The team delivered a strong all-round performance with both bat and ball. Their batsmen put up a big total in the first innings, putting pressure on Karnataka. The bowlers then performed brilliantly to restrict Karnataka and ensure the massive lead that proved decisive.

This victory is a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir cricket. Winning the Ranji Trophy, India’s premier domestic cricket tournament, marks a new chapter for the region. It shows the growth of cricket in the Union Territory and highlights the talent coming from areas that were once overlooked.

The historic win is expected to inspire young cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir and bring more attention and support to the sport in the region.
