IPL 2026: Why Bumrah Isn’t Joining MI Training Camp Yet

Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pace bowler, has arrived at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Mumbai Indians (MI), the team Bumrah plays for, will start their season with a match against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29.

Despite concerns about potential injuries, Bumrah is at the CoE for a routine check-up and to manage his workload. He is focusing on strength and conditioning exercises as advised by the BCCI medical team.

The main reason Bumrah isn’t joining MI in Mumbai is to prepare for India’s upcoming white-ball tour of England in July. The tour includes five T20Is and three ODIs, with the first match scheduled for July 1.

Most MI players, including those who won the recent T20 World Cup, have already begun training in Mumbai. Hardik Pandya leads the team, which hasn’t won the IPL since 2020.

Bumrah will continue training at CoE but is expected to join MI before their season opener. He was recently part of India’s squad that defended the T20 World Cup title in Ahmedabad, taking four wickets in the final and being named Player of the Match.

Bumrah has faced back injury issues in the past, including surgery in March 2023 for a stress fracture. His workload is carefully monitored to prevent further injuries, which have sidelined him at times, such as during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia in 2024.

Since his IPL debut in 2013, Bumrah has played 145 matches for Mumbai Indians and taken 183 wickets with an economy rate of 7.25.
