India Among Nations Allowed Through Strait of Hormuz by Iran
Iran has permitted India and several other friendly countries, including China and Russia, to navigate through the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, handles about 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments.
Global oil and gas prices have risen sharply after Iran effectively blocked ships from passing through the strait earlier. West Asia is a key source of energy for India, which has been actively working to resolve tensions in the region and ensure uninterrupted energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi confirmed that Iran has allowed China, Russia, India, Iraq, and Pakistan to continue using the strait for shipping. However, he emphasized that ships linked to Iran’s adversaries will not be permitted to pass through the strategic waterway, as the region remains a war zone.
International concern over the blockage has grown, with US President Donald Trump warning of severe consequences if Iran does not reopen the strait fully. India, along with other nations, is focused on diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and maintain energy security, particularly for countries like India that rely heavily on West Asia for fuel and fertilizer supplies.
