Chidambaram Predicts Close Fight in TN Polls

P. Chidambaram, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress, has said that the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election 2026 will be a close fight.

Speaking in an interview at his residence in Chennai, he said the election will not be one-sided like the Indian General Election 2024. Instead, he expects a strong contest between two major political fronts in the state.

Chidambaram also shared his views on coalition governments. He disagreed with the idea often expressed by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam that people of Tamil Nadu do not support coalition rule.

According to him, voters are open to different political arrangements if they believe it will bring better governance. He suggested that coalition governments should not be ruled out in the state’s political future.

He also said that political parties will need to work harder to connect with voters and address their concerns. Issues like development, welfare, and governance are likely to play a major role in the election.

His comments indicate that the 2026 Tamil Nadu election could be highly competitive, with no clear winner at this stage.
