Yuvraj Highlights Sanju Samson’s Batting Flaw

A photo of Sanju Samson and Yuvraj Singh recently went viral ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. While Samson praised their training sessions as “very helpful,” it was Yuvraj, a two-time World Cup-winning former India all-rounder, who pointed out a key issue in Samson’s batting.

The exact timing of their meeting is unclear, but it evidently made a big difference for Samson. During the 2026 T20 World Cup, he scored 97 against the West Indies, 89 against England in the semifinals, and another 89 against New Zealand in the final, helping India win the title.

In a recent Sportstak podcast, Yuvraj revealed that their conversation started back in 2024 during India’s World Cup victory in Barbados. He had been observing Samson’s batting for two to three IPL seasons and noticed an issue. “Sanju had reached a point where he felt he wasn’t making it into the team,” Yuvraj said.

He explained that during their meeting, he told Samson, “If you don’t improve your footwork, you will keep getting into trouble. Scoring runs is one thing, but you need to fix your footwork.” Yuvraj shared some tips on how Samson could work on this flaw.

The results were clear in the 2026 World Cup as Samson’s improved footwork allowed him to play strong innings and contribute significantly to India’s success.
