‘If MS Dhoni is fit, CSK should bring him in as Impact Player:’ Mitchell McClenaghan ahead of CSK vs KKR

If MS Dhoni is fit, CSK should use him as Impact Player: Mitchell McClenaghan

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 14 (ANI): Former New Zealand cricketer Mitchell McClenaghan has suggested that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should consider using veteran MS Dhoni as an Impact Player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, particularly during chase situations.

Dhoni, who has missed four of CSK’s matches so far due to a calf strain, had a light practice in the nets ahead of their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, he only faced throwdowns and is unlikely to play in the upcoming game.

McClenaghan believes that if Dhoni regains fitness, his experience and ability to score quickly would be beneficial for CSK, especially in high-pressure chases. Playing as an Impact Player would allow Dhoni to focus on aggressive batting without the need for excessive running, which could help him regain his rhythm.

“If MS Dhoni is fit, then CSK should bring him in as the Impact Player,” McClenaghan said. “This role would enable him to provide a short burst of runs when needed, particularly during chases. He can come in, score quickly, and finish the innings effectively.”

The former cricketer also noted that Dhoni’s presence would strengthen CSK’s lower middle order, which has struggled so far this season.

Currently, CSK have only won one out of their four matches in IPL 2026. After suffering three consecutive defeats, they managed to break the streak by defeating Delhi Capitals by 23 runs.
