Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka Banned from PSL for Switching to IPL

Sri Lankan cricketer Dasun Shanaka has been banned from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for one year after leaving his Lahore Qalandars contract to join Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the decision following a detailed review. They stated that Shanaka’s choice to end his PSL contract without permission broke both Player Registration rules and the Tripartite Agreement.

Shanaka, who signed with RR as a replacement for injured Sam Curran, expressed regret over his decision. He apologized to PSL fans, Lahore Qalandars supporters, and the cricket community, acknowledging the hurt caused by his actions. Shanaka emphasized that he had no plans to join another league at the time and remains hopeful of returning to the PSL in the future.

This is not an isolated case; other players like Corbin Bosch and Blessing Muzrabani have also left PSL teams for IPL opportunities, facing similar consequences.

Shanaka’s ban means he cannot play in PSL 2027. He has yet to make his debut for RR in the ongoing IPL 2026.
