NOTA Votes Rise in T Nagar Election

In Chennai, the T Nagar result in the 2021 election was very close. J. Karunanithi, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate, won the seat by just 137 votes.

However, another important detail from the election was the number of votes for NOTA (None of the Above). In T Nagar, NOTA received 1,617 votes, which is almost 11 times more than the winning margin.

Many voters who chose NOTA said they were not satisfied with the work done by both DMK and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) candidates. Instead of choosing any party, they expressed their dissatisfaction by selecting NOTA.

This trend was not limited to T Nagar alone. In several other constituencies as well, a noticeable number of voters chose NOTA to show that they were unhappy with the available candidates.

The data shows that while elections are often very close, a section of voters is still choosing to reject all candidates rather than support any party.
