Anna University Staff Arrested During Duty
A contract employee working in the CCTV surveillance room at the vote-counting centre in Anna University, Chennai, was arrested for misconduct while on duty.
According to officials, the employee allegedly downloaded and watched the film Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, who is also the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
While working at the sensitive surveillance centre, he reportedly took a photograph of the movie playing on his laptop and shared it on social media.
The incident raised serious concerns because the employee was assigned to monitor security arrangements at an important vote-counting location.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from five Assembly constituencies — Saidapet, Virugambakkam, Velachery, T. Nagar, and Mylapore — had been brought to the centre on April 23 and were being kept under strict security.
Authorities viewed the employee’s actions as a serious breach of duty, especially given the importance of maintaining security and professionalism at a vote-counting facility.
Police have taken him into custody, and further investigation is underway.
