US Federal Grand Jury Charges Former FBI Director with Threatening President

A US federal grand jury has indicted former FBI Director James Comey on serious charges related to an alleged threat against President Donald Trump.

The case was filed in North Carolina. Prosecutors say Comey knowingly made a threat to harm the President on May 15, 2025. He is also accused of sending a threatening message across state lines, which is a violation of federal law.

US law strictly prohibits threats against the President and any communication that involves threats across state borders. If he is found guilty, Comey could face up to 10 years in prison.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the charges came after a detailed investigation that lasted several months. FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the investigation followed normal procedures and standard legal steps.

US Attorney Ellis Boyle added that the prosecution will continue the case based on evidence, regardless of Comey’s former position as FBI Director.

Authorities have clarified that an indictment is not a conviction. It only means that formal charges have been filed. James Comey is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The case is expected to move forward through the legal process in the coming months.
