Sunil Gavaskar Highlights High-Scoring Chases in IPL 2026

Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has highlighted a major trend in IPL 2026 — the increasing number of successful high-scoring run chases.

Speaking as a cricket expert, Gavaskar said that when teams repeatedly chase large targets successfully, it builds confidence across the tournament. As a result, teams now believe that even very high scores can be chased down.

He explained that recent matches where teams comfortably chased totals above 260 runs have changed batting strategies in the IPL. According to Gavaskar, franchises now approach big targets with greater belief and aggression.

He pointed to examples such as Royal Challengers Bangalore’s successful chase against Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings’ easy pursuit against Delhi Capitals as signs of this shift.

Gavaskar noted that throughout IPL 2026, teams have been regularly chasing scores above 200 and even 220 runs, proving that no target seems impossible anymore.

The batting legend also praised young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his exceptional performances this season.

Gavaskar admired Sooryavanshi’s fearless batting style, strong technique, and ability to use the field smartly. He said the youngster combines power with maturity, making him one of the tournament’s standout stars.

At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made history by becoming the fastest player to reach 400 runs in an IPL season, achieving the milestone in only 167 balls. This broke Andre Russell’s previous record of 188 balls set in 2019.

So far, Sooryavanshi has scored 400 runs in nine matches, maintaining an impressive average of 44.44 and an explosive strike rate of 238.09. His performances include one century and two half-centuries.

In Rajasthan Royals’ recent victory over Punjab Kings, Sooryavanshi’s strong start alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal played a key role in the successful chase.

Despite Punjab’s first loss of the season, they remain at the top of the points table with 13 points, while Rajasthan Royals have climbed to third place with 12 points.

Gavaskar’s observations reflect how IPL 2026 has become a season dominated by fearless batting, record-breaking performances, and a new era where even the biggest targets are seen as achievable.
