MGM Malar Performs Advanced Heart Procedure

MGM Healthcare Malar in Adyar successfully performed an advanced heart procedure on a 75-year-old woman without the need for open-heart surgery.

Doctors used a combination of two minimally invasive treatments. The first was Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a procedure used to replace a damaged heart valve without major surgery. The second was the implantation of a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker, which helps regulate the heart’s rhythm without traditional surgical leads.

According to doctors, the patient had previously undergone bypass surgery and had been suffering for nearly three months from severe breathlessness and repeated fainting episodes.

Because of her medical history and condition, traditional open-heart surgery would have carried higher risks. The minimally invasive approach offered a safer alternative while reducing recovery time.

Hospital specialists said the successful procedure marks an important achievement in advanced cardiac care, especially for elderly patients with complex heart conditions.

By avoiding open-heart surgery, the patient experienced less physical trauma, faster recovery, and reduced surgical complications.

Doctors shared details of the case during a press conference on Wednesday, highlighting how modern medical technology is improving treatment options for high-risk cardiac patients.
