US Says Conflict with Iran Has Ended Under Ceasefire
The United States government has said that the conflict with Iran has now effectively ended after a ceasefire was agreed. Because of this, the administration believes it may not need to seek approval from the US Congress under the War Powers Resolution, which normally requires lawmakers to approve extended military actions.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth informed senators that the ceasefire has stopped the fighting between the two sides. He explained that military operations have now paused and there are no active combat actions taking place.
A senior official from the US administration also said that the fighting began on February 28 but has now fully stopped. According to the official, there have been no further attacks or exchanges of fire since the ceasefire agreement on April 7.
While the situation appears calmer, officials have not completely ruled out future tensions. For now, they say the ceasefire is holding and active conflict has ended.
