Tehran Air Defences Activated Amid Tensions
Tehran activated its air defence systems late on Thursday, April 30, after reports of small aircraft and reconnaissance drones near the city.
According to Iranian news agencies Tasnim and Fars, air defence systems were used for about 20 minutes in parts of the capital to respond to the aerial threat. Officials said the systems were deployed to counter small aircraft and drones, and later confirmed that the situation had returned to normal.
The incident comes during heightened tensions between Iran and the United States as conflict continues in the region.
At the same time, the administration of US President Donald Trump indicated that it would not be limited by an approaching congressional deadline regarding military action against Iran.
The White House was facing a midnight deadline to secure authorization from the US Congress under war powers requirements. This created growing political tension between the administration and lawmakers over the continuation of military operations.
The situation has set up a major clash between Congress and the White House, with debates focusing on presidential war powers, national security, and the future of US involvement in the conflict.
While immediate danger in Tehran appears to have passed, the event reflects the fragile and highly tense conditions in the region.
