Ladakh a living land of dharma for centuries says Amit Shah
Amit Shah described the return of sacred Buddhist relics to Ladakh after 75 years as a “historic reunion” on Friday, May 1, 2026.
He said Ladakh has always been a “living land of dharma,” where Buddhist culture, teachings, and traditions have been carefully preserved for many centuries. He added that the region has played an important role in protecting and passing on Buddhist knowledge from one generation to another.
The Home Minister also highlighted the importance of the teachings of Gautama Buddha in the modern world. He said that Buddha’s message of peace, compassion, and the middle path is still very important even after more than 2,500 years.
He further said that in today’s world, which faces many conflicts and challenges, these teachings are needed more than ever to build peace, unity, and understanding among people.
The return of the relics is being seen as a major cultural and spiritual event for Ladakh. It is expected to strengthen the region’s historical connection with Buddhist heritage and bring renewed attention to its long-standing traditions.
