Supreme Court Grants Bail for Pawan Khera in Assam Case

The Supreme Court has given anticipatory bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera in a forgery and criminal case filed in Assam.

The complaint was made by the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. She had accused Pawan Khera of wrongdoing, which led to the case being registered against him.

However, the Supreme Court said that the case seems to be politically motivated. The court also said there was no strong reason to arrest him at this stage.

A bench led by Justice J.K. Maheshwari gave a strong warning to the Assam government. The court said that police powers should not be used lightly to arrest political opponents.

The court’s 22-page order stressed that personal freedom is very important. It said that no one should be arrested without proper and strong evidence.

In simple terms, the court protected Pawan Khera from arrest for now and reminded authorities that legal action should not be misused for political purposes.
