Russian Strikes on Ukraine Gas Facilities Kill Five
A new round of intense attacks has taken place between Russia and Ukraine, leading to deaths, injuries, and major damage to energy facilities on both sides.
Ukrainian officials said that Russian missiles and drones hit gas plants overnight on Tuesday. The attack killed five people, including three workers and two emergency responders who were trying to manage the situation at the site.
The strikes targeted energy infrastructure in the Poltava region and the Kharkiv region. Ukraine’s state energy company Naftogaz confirmed that 37 other people were injured in the attack.
Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene to help the injured, put out fires, and repair damaged gas facilities. Authorities are continuing recovery work in the affected areas.
In response, Ukraine carried out a strike on a large oil refinery in the Leningrad region. The attack caused a major fire in the town of Kirishi. Local officials said the fire was later controlled, and firefighters were close to completing their operations.
Meanwhile, Russia said its air defense systems intercepted and shot down 289 Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions. Russian officials reported that the drones were destroyed in different parts of the country, though full details were not immediately available.
These continued attacks show the ongoing intensity of the conflict, with both countries targeting energy infrastructure. The situation has raised concerns about civilian safety and the growing impact of the war on essential services like power and gas supply.
