PM Modi Addresses Industry Leaders in Sweden

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that India is now one of the world’s most appealing destinations for investment, innovation, and manufacturing during his speech at the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) in Gothenburg, Sweden. He highlighted opportunities available to companies in India and assured them of support through institutional systems to participate in key national projects.

Modi stressed that India has been focusing on reforms, performance, and transformation over the past 12 years, with its “reform express” moving at full speed. He urged Swedish businesses to expand their presence in sectors like green hydrogen, clean energy, and manufacturing. He also pointed out potential collaboration opportunities in areas such as telecom, digital infrastructure, AI, green energy, infrastructure, mobility, urban development, healthcare, and life sciences.

Modi emphasized the importance of co-creating the next wave of technology innovation with India and welcomed stronger India-EU ties, including the recently finalized India-EU Free Trade Agreement. He also noted how projects like the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) strengthen business partnerships between India and Europe.

The roundtable was attended by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and industry leaders from both Europe and India. Modi also met with select Swedish CEOs alongside Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Prime Minister Kristersson.

During his visit, Modi elevated bilateral ties between India and Sweden to a Strategic Partnership after talks with Kristersson in Gothenburg. He was awarded Sweden’s highest honor, the Royal Order of the Polar Star, in recognition of his contributions to bilateral relations and leadership. This marks Modi’s 31st international honor and comes during his five-nation tour, which began with visits to the Netherlands and other countries.
