Jos Buttler Tips Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to Break T20 Record

Senior England batter Jos Buttler has praised Indian teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, suggesting he could break Buttler’s record for scoring the most runs in T20 cricket. Buttler recently surpassed West Indies player Kieron Pollard to become the highest run-scorer in T20 history during a match between Manchester Super Giants and Welsh Fire in The Hundred tournament.

Buttler has scored 14,833 runs in 522 T20 matches, with an impressive strike rate of 147.24. This includes 27 half-centuries and nine centuries. Pollard and Chris Gayle hold second and third places with 14,803 and 14,562 runs respectively.

Buttler acknowledged the achievement but also highlighted Sooryavanshi’s potential to surpass his record. The 35-year-old said it was a proud moment but admitted someone like Sooryavanshi could eventually break it.

Sooryavanshi, a star in the shortest format, made headlines during IPL 2025 with Rajasthan Royals, scoring 252 runs at an incredible strike rate of 206.55. He followed this up by winning the Orange Cap in IPL 2026, accumulating 776 runs from 16 matches at a strike rate of 237.30.

The Under-19 World Cup winner recently made his India debut in T20I series against England and Zimbabwe, topping the scoring charts with 151 runs in three innings and earning the Player of the Series award.

Sooryavanshi has played 40 T20 matches, scoring 1,670 runs at a strike rate of 216.32. He shared how quickly cricket can change, adding that after struggling with form earlier, he focused on determination and rediscovering his best batting.

In the recent match, Welsh Fire won the toss and chose to bat first. They scored 155/4 in 100 balls thanks to Matthew Short’s 71 and captain Phil Salt’s 48. Manchester Super Giants comfortably chased down the target with nine wickets remaining and 31 deliveries to spare. Buttler, batting at No. 3, remained unbeaten on 51, while Tim Seifert ended on 62 not out.
