Sri Lanka Faces Double Blow in India Test Series

Sri Lanka have suffered a major setback ahead of the second Test against India, with experienced batters Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis ruled out of the match.

The second Test is scheduled to begin on August 23 in Colombo. Sri Lanka will now have to make changes to their batting line-up after losing two important players.

Mendis Ruled Out With Hamstring Injury

Kusal Mendis will miss the Test after suffering a hamstring injury during the Lanka Premier League.

The injury has not healed enough for him to take part in the match. His absence is a concern for Sri Lanka because Mendis is an experienced batter who can play an important role in building a strong innings.

Sri Lanka will now need another player to take his place and provide stability in the batting order.

Chandimal Sidelined After Concussion

Dinesh Chandimal is also unavailable after suffering a concussion during the first Test in Galle.

Chandimal was injured while fielding and was later substituted because of the concussion. Under ICC rules, a player who is replaced because of a concussion must complete a minimum seven-day period before returning to play.

As a result, Chandimal will not be available for the second Test in Colombo.

Another Challenge for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka are already under pressure after losing the first Test to India by 165 runs in Galle.

With two experienced batters now missing, the team faces an additional challenge as it looks to fight back in the series.

The absence of Chandimal and Mendis means Sri Lanka’s younger players could have a bigger responsibility in the second Test.

Coach Gary Kirsten Encourages Young Players

Sri Lanka coach Gary Kirsten confirmed that both players would miss the match. He acknowledged that their absence is a setback but also said it creates an opportunity for other members of the squad.

Kirsten believes the younger players can use the opportunity to show what they are capable of at the international level.

The players coming into the team will have to handle the pressure and perform against a strong Indian side.

Chance for New Players

The absence of two experienced batters could give Sri Lanka’s younger players valuable international experience.

A strong performance in Colombo could help these players establish themselves in the Test team and give the selectors more options for future matches.

For Sri Lanka, the goal will be to recover from the defeat in Galle and produce a much stronger performance in the second Test.

India Enter the Match With Confidence

India will enter the second Test with confidence after winning the opening match. Their strong performance in Galle has given them an early advantage in the series.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will need their remaining players to step up and handle the pressure.

With Chandimal and Mendis unavailable, the second Test will be an important opportunity for Sri Lanka’s younger players to prove their ability and help the team make a comeback.
