Ashwin Explains Jadeja’s Changing Role

Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has noticed a shift in Ravindra Jadeja’s role within the Indian Test team. Once known for his aggressive spinning bowling, Jadeja now plays more as a middle-order batter who can provide experience with his bowling.

In the recent Test against Sri Lanka, it was not just Jadeja but also young Manav Suthar who stood out. While Jadeja took four wickets in Galle, Suthar claimed an impressive 10-wicket haul, helping India win by 165 runs. Ashwin praised both players, noting that Suthar’s ability to take wickets and read the batters’ intentions makes him a valuable asset.

Ashwin highlighted how Jadeja has evolved into a more controlling bowler rather than an attacking one, focusing on maintaining pressure through his stock deliveries. He also commended Suthar for stepping up in both Tests, showcasing his skills as a wicket-taker.

India’s team performed well overall, with players like Devdutt Padikkal, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Rishabh Pant contributing significantly. Ashwin particularly singled out Suthar as the standout performer of the series so far.

The Test series will conclude with the final match in Colombo from 23 August.
